Late this afternoon a conference call went out to all Institutions. The subject matter was lay off notices:
Close to 600 layoff letters will mailed out to CDCR employees tomorrow. A few officers will be given an opportunity to opt into a few remaining PICO positions throughout the state. The effective layoff date will be February 29, 2012.
January 26, 2012
WHAT TO DO IF YOU RECEIVE A LAYOFF NOTICE
Bargaining Unit 6 employees subject to layoff should anticipate receiving a layoff notice soon, perhaps as early as Friday, January 27, 2012. If you receive a layoff notice and you believe you have reasons to contest your layoff due to errors in your seniority score, the form of the notice, or the layoff procedure itself, contact our CCPOA field representative, Corey Davis, immediately so that your case can be evaluated in a timely manner. Corey Davis can be reached by calling our Sacramento Office at (800) 821- 6443 or (916) 372-6060.
CCPOA has negotiated a FINAL TRANSFER PROCESS in WAVE 1 before layoffs will occur for Correctional Officers. This will allow one final opportunity for a Correctional Officer to relocate prior to the occurrence of a layoff. We highly encourage employees to participate in the process and avoid this outcome. Notices and bid forms offering PICO positions at 7 institutions will be sent to impacted Correctional Officers by CDCR. These institutions include CAL, CEN, COR, HDSP, KVSP, PBSP, and SVSP.Staff that are awarded selections during this Final Opportunity will be afforded 3 days of ATO and the option of using up to 10 days of leave credits to facilitate moving. During this final opportunity, CDCR will not offer per diem.
CCPOA continues, through its central and individual institutional resources, to work to alleviate the reach and impact of layoffs resulting from AB 109.
State is full of Sh!T, these numbers are all made up. Yesterday there were no vacancies. Now magically 7 prisons have vacancies. They already sent out last best and finals to some people, now there gonna do another bid. I'm calling BS! As far as I'm concerned the union does not have are backs, there letting the State play games with our lives, and families lives. Thanks CIM CCPOA for selling your votes to MJ.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm laid off how soon will they cash me out
ReplyDeleteOf the time I have on the books and poff money? There is no guaranty that I will be hired back and once or if the opportunity is afforded I would return.
Only way to save staff is for us to start burning our sick time!! It's an extreme measure that will create shifts for the PICO's thus proving on paper that we need the staff!!
DeleteAB109 process so far: Wave One
ReplyDeleteOpp.One = Bid on a fulltime position within the state at different institutions.
Opp.Two = Bid otap or pico at current institution
Opp.Three = Bid statewide for available positions otap and pico.
Now after Opp.3, officers that did nothing or received nothing during the first 3 opps. were given the county options worksheet which consisted of the following: Sierra Conservation Center which is the hiring authority for(Prado). Or bump FT within county (CIM/CIW) or bump pico within county (CIM/CIW) all based on seniority. The results for this option are in the mail, as are the layoff notices. Once this option is done the remaining officers that were bumped and/or were not awarded any spot based on seniority would/will be allowed to bid on PICO spots at the seven mentioned pens. (pbsp/hdsp/cen/cal/kvsp etc. all far!!! The positions at the seven pens were newly added from the union meetings that the chapter presidents attended and they did help get/find the positions to be open. I agree it seems that our $79 a month is going to unknown places. It seems pretty sad when all this is happening our union should be getting all the details and notifying us on the regular and they have not. The CCPOA website doesn't even give "VALUABLE" info. on AB109s impact and their members being impacted. We do have to remember this is the Federal governments decisions that caused the whole situation. We should look into our union with a fine-tooth comb and see whats really going on and see what changes really need to be made in HQ. Our state should have continued the prison building in 2004-2005 like they had planned. We likely would not be in this situation if at the completion of Kern Valley they would have been under construction with two, if not three other pens within the state. Coulda-shoulda-didnt. I know its frustrating and scary not knowing whats gonna happen....i'm living it too. Just keep your heads up and control only what you can control. Be safe.

Well said brother.
DeleteSeparate your state service completely and cash out your time balances? I would hold off until I'm forced to do it. If you do and get hired back for some reason, I don't think you'll enjoy the 2.5 @ 55!
ReplyDeleteCIM CCPOA chapter is weak!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteHey come on now, let's not be unreasonable..... high definition television is very rehabilitative, and reduces recidivism. Extreme sarcasm, by the way....
DeleteTV's usually come from inmate funds like the extra they pay for canteen.
