On Thursday I had the pleasure of teaching a class in IST, it was alarm response for Non-Custody staff new employee orientation. I stayed to course on the lesson plan and showed the class some good videos of what we really do! They seemed to enjoy the class.
I talked about the reality of AB109 and staff reductions. I explained how this will impact the way we will be responding in the future.
After the class a young man stayed behind, he told me he liked the class and he concurred with me about the AB109 staff reductions. He said he was a victim of AB109, he said he started his career 10 years ago as a non-custody staff member. He decided last year to take the leap and become a Correctional Officer, he entered the Academy, graduated and got hired on as an Officer at CIW!
He loved being an Officer at CIW. And then early this year he got his pink slip, he chose to stay with the department and demote down back to non-custody. I thought to myself what a waste of "good talent", the money our department spent to get this young man trained! I thought he could have been up here teaching the same class!
"Bird on the Wire" says more pink slips will be out next week, to all staff with 15 years or less! I'm sure by late this year, I will meet more good people, like the young man I met yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a Safe 8
I pray to God that my 2 interviews this month go well so I can finally resign and move on with my life. Both of the positions require a pay cut but it would make me extremely happy and relieve all my stress to quit CDC. After nearly 6 years I realize what a waste of time its been and I pray for my fellow CO's who will remain to deal with the crimes of these Sacramento officials. May God bless us all and smile down on me so I can get the hell outta dodge!!!
ReplyDelete-Hear my prayer oh God-
Relax you should be so lucky to have this job. If its been so bad how'd you last 6yrs, should of left long time ago. You sound like a typical CIM 6 YR veteran! Remember, we create our own stresses in lifestyles we choose, regardless stay safe wherever you shall go
Delete@10:00 Best Of Luck on those interviews & Bull though it's hard to hear info that's out there from "the bird on the wire" it does give us officers a chance to prepare for whet could be ...much love (no homo) and respect !
ReplyDeleteWhen are the layoffs?
ReplyDeleteI have decided to let the state lay me off when the time comes. I'm not going to put my family through a difficult move, or mommy only being home on her days off because she has to work 3+ hours away. I'm getting great support from my family and friends and I will be attending school to become a respiratory technician. I'm not going to let the stress associated with this department kill me. Sometimes I feel like this job is literally killing my brain cells. I'm ready for a challenge.
ReplyDeleteSgt. with all do respect, their has been quite a few "good people" impacted or wasted as you said in this ridiculous process called AB109. A lot of C.O.s that did work and did their job and still got axed, forced transferred, or pico'd. I did. And as is the previous anonymous post, I am trying to get the hell out of CDC before they get rid of me! Good luck to all staff seriously impacted by AB109 and the ones that aren't that disrespected, what you call junior staff, watch your six. You will soon wish those "rooks", "juniors", or "fish" were still around!
ReplyDeleteIn CDCR C/O's talk about seniority because that's all they got a number on a seniority list. Go learn a trade and time will mean experience and you are damm good at what you do.
ReplyDeleteOK I can’t take it anymore, all this BS about OG’s and new officers is ridiculous. I guess I’m an OG, the last time I checked I was number 3 on the list. What does that number really mean, job choice, overtime, vacation choice, that’s about it on paper. Does it mean I do my job better, NO, does it mean I’m smarter, NO, does it mean I don’t have to work as hard as anyone else daily and on overtime, HELL NO. What it does mean is that I’ve been around and seen and done things that you probably haven’t. It also means that its MY responsibility to help train the new cops, those that are receptive. You have to remember there are LOPS at every level, new and old. I’m speaking of Central because that’s where I’ve done most of my time and that’s where the culture of shunning new faces started and it’s only gotten worse. I’ve been told the reason is that: “ I don’t know if I can trust them or if they are even going to be around very long so why should talk to them or bother to learn there name”. I say BS, It was me and cops like me who did the training and that’s not what we taught. True, trust is earned but how can it be earned if you don’t help train the new cops. On the other hand the new cops must be willing to learn, you didn’t learn it all at the academy, and this IS CIM ( right way, wrong way, CIM way). I’ve worked with a lot of good cops and a lot of LOPS in my time and I’ve found It doesn’t matter how long they’ve been employed, what mattered is what kind of person they are to start with. Now as to the people who think anyone with more than 25 years in should retire I say BS, work as long as you want, it’s your job and your business ( but 30 is enough). One last thing, anonymous posting is the same as” cell warrior“, if your proud of your opinion and stand behind it, put your name to it. Hopefully you all can get it together and work together because tougher times are coming, my bird says it’s going to be a blood bath. CIM has run with under 600 cops before and it seems it will again and with a more dangerous inmate, the gang associates that have been locked up in the past are soon going to be mainlined to save money. I for one am soon to be done, after my accident I doubt that I’ll be back before I retire so to all my fellow Guards and Correctional Officers, have a safe 8.
ReplyDeleteJ.L.Roberts, the elder.
